At Travel With Cubs, we believe in fostering compassion and respect for wildlife in our children. The elephant dance show at Dehiwala Zoo has been a long-standing tradition, but it raises an important question: Is this entertaining practice ethical? Animal rights activist Sagarika Rajakarunanayake argues that such performances are cruel and send the wrong message to children, normalising the exploitation of animals for entertainment. Instead, we should focus on teaching our cubs about animal welfare and the importance of respecting wildlife. This conversation highlights the need for responsible care for animals in captivity and challenges us to reconsider practices that may compromise their well-being. Let’s guide our cubs to become advocates for a kinder, more ethical world for all living beings….

At Travel With Cubs, we believe it’s vital for our cubs to understand the importance of animal welfare. One story that touched our hearts is that of Bindu the Camel, who resides at the Dehiwala Zoo. After the unfortunate loss of his partner due to a misdiagnosis, Bindu has been without a companion. In an effort to improve his well-being, the zoo is actively working on securing a female camel, exploring exchange programmes with zoos in India, Moscow, and Pakistan. They’re also considering other ways to provide Bindu with a suitable partner without sending an animal from Dehiwala Zoo. This highlights the importance of responsible care for animals in captivity, and it’s a story we’re sharing to encourage compassion and awareness about animal welfare. Let’s teach our cubs to be advocates for better lives for animals everywhere….

At Travel With Cubs, we believe in inspiring our little adventurers to become champions of climate action. Recently, we applied to volunteer in Sunderland community events, where we’ll be taking our cubs to help plant trees in the Millfield area. Volunteering is more than just giving time—it’s about teaching the next generation the importance of caring for our communities and our planet. By participating in these meaningful projects, we hope to nurture a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship in our cubs, ensuring a brighter future for everyone. Join us in supporting these initiatives as we make small steps towards a healthier planet and stronger communities!…
